Matheri was released from prison last week on Friday, after serving a four-year term for his heinous acts.

He was attacked by a mob who got wind of his release, and was cornered as he headed to a nearby church.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Matheri said he is a changed man now and was seeking a second chance in the society.

“I have since accepted Jesus as my personal saviour and completely changed and all that I am asking for is forgiveness from anyone I might have wronged,” he said.

His uncle, Peter Matheri defended him, saying he is a changed man now and urged the public to embrace and accept him back into the society.

“As a family we have received him back to our home and despite the problems that we are undergoing we are ready to walk with him,” he said.

The locals however expressed fears that they might not be safe with Matheri on the loose, as most of the residents were still living in fear.

Matheri was arrested and charged in 2008 of killing one lady after raping her, and illegally detaining one other. Murder charges against him were dropped by the high court after the evidence that was provided was deemed insufficient.
