The hearing of a murder case against a man nicknamed ‘The Naivasha Vampire’ failed to kick off on Tuesday before the high court in Nakuru.
Lady Justice Abigael Mshila adjourned the case facing Geoffrey Matheri alias Fongo after the prosecution sought for time to type proceedings of the case.
The court directed that the matter be heard on June 24.
The accused is facing trial of the murder of Naomi Wairimu, a crime allegedly committed in August 2008 at his Kihoto house in the outskirts of Naivasha.
Matheri earned the nickname ‘vampire’ after his victims, mostly females alleged that he had been sucking blood from those he kidnapped.
The man was accused of abducting women, raping and drinking their blood in Naivasha. He faced six various counts and in November last year, where he was found guilty of kidnap by Naivasha Senior Principal Magistrate Thripsisa Wamae and was jailed for four years which he is currently serving at the Naivasha Maximum prison.
The murder case he is facing which was opened against him has been dragging on without taking off for more than five years after the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In the previous hearing, Justice Anyara Emukule expressed his dissatisfaction in the way the prosecution was handling the case, noting that meaningful progress was yet to be made five years on.
