Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika has encouraged Naivasha women to be on the frontline in seeking government services.

Speaking to the press at Naivasha town on Tuesday, Kihika said that women have been empowered and that they should be active in all areas.

Kihika stated that times when women’s rights were violated is long over due adding that they have a voice to demand change.

“Naivasha women should come forward and demand services fro both County and national government since it is their rights,” said Kihika.

The Assembly Speaker encouraged women to continue applying for State funds to enable them start business ventures as a way of improving their standard of living.

She said that the government has put in place programmes meant to empower women socio-economically.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has asked the government to protect women against violation and assaults by some men adding that cases of women being violated have risen and called for urgent action.

“Our women are being violated while the government is watching,” alleged Kihika who called for stiffer penalties on perpetrators of gender based violence.

Speaker Kihika called on the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to formulate By-laws that will protect the interests and welfare of women.
