Nakuru’s Viwandani MCA Eunice Mureithi alias ‘Mama Sonko’ has challenged women in Nakuru to apply for government money and start businesses.
The MCA asked women to form groups and take advantage of the government money, which she said if used wisely will result in good development.
Mureithi added that women have no excuse but to boost their business and ‘chamas’, by applying for the money.
Speaking in Naivasha on Monday, the ward representative said it was time that women stood and got counted in terms of development projects.
“Women have been given an opportunity to improve their living standards through the Uwezo Fund and other funds availed by the counties,” said Mureithi.
The MCA added that women contribute largely to the country’s economy through their small businessesm hence the need for the government to protect and consider their interests.
The ward leader also called on women to be active when it comes to matters politics, adding that womens’ views are needed in governance and national development, and they should be active.
Mureithi said that the county assembly recognizes the role of women in development, saying that policies will be passed to empower women economically, social and politically.
