The shooting took place on November 10, 2015.A senior manager at Nakumatt claimed to be responsible for shooting a colleague dead at the supermarket’s head office along Nairobi’s Mombasa Road will undergo mental checkup before being arraigned in court to answer to a murder charge.
Abdul Kairo, the supermarket’s transport manager is said to have shot Wafula Musumbi twice on the chest on November 10, 2015 under unclear circumstances.
Prosecutor Catherine Mwaniki applied to have the suspect detained for two weeks for the mental checks to be carried out.Kairo will return to court on July 18 to answer to the murder charge leveled against him.
Prosecution believes Kairo used unnecessary force, considering he aimed the gun at the chest of the late Musumbi when he fired the shots, Business Daily reported.
When Kairo was arraigned before Lady Justice Jessie Lessit, she ordered that the suspect be taken for mental assessment at the Mathare Mental Hospital before being detained at Nairobi’s Industrial Area Police Station.
Nakumatt’s security chief Michael Ndung’u was quoted by the media saying the deceased looked mentally disturbed on the fateful day. He said he chased a colleague while armed with a spade and a panga.
During the chase, Ndung’u said, one employee sustained a panga cut.
The deceased is claimed to have attacked Kairo who then shot him twice.
