Nakumatt has been targeted once again after Auditor-General Edward Ouko has threatened to take legal action against the Supermarket chain to end its blockade of construction of a 39-storey building owned by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
The retail chain and NSSF have been caught up in court over the construction of what is expected to be Nairob's tallest building once completed.
According to reports, Nakumatt went to court three years ago in an effort to block the building of additional floors above its Nakumatt Lifestyle branch citing that construction was disturbing its business.
As a result, NSSF contractors were blocked from reinforcing the columns inside the branch for other floors to be added to the building.
“In view of the foregoing, NSSF should take legal action against the tenant to secure completion of the building to safeguard members’ contribution,” said Ouko in NSSF’s latest audit report.
Construction has stalled at the 15th floor of the building and the contractor has received Sh1.9 billion for the project.
