David Kuria, who is also the director of Nakuru Human Rights Network, now joins 21 bearers from the world who have been trained and equipped with the Natalia Bracelet, which aims at protecting Human Rights defenders.

Speaking in Nakuru town, Kuria said the project was a positive move to protect him and other human right defenders as they pursue justice in the society.

“It is a timely and important protection tool for exposed human rights defenders in Kenya, where the security situation in general, and for human rights defenders, is deteriorating” said Kuria.

Mr Kuria featured prominently in the movement to agitate for the unconditional release of political prisoners who under the Moi regime, were detained for their move to call for multiparty democracy. He worked alongside other human rights activists across the country to call for the release of those detained by the Kanu government, including the late Nakuru town MP Mirugi Kariuki, former Subukia MP Koigi wa Wamwere, former Kitutu Masaba MP George Anyona among others.

He has also tirelessly campaigned on behalf of political prisoners, those exposed to police brutality and families who have had loved ones murdered mysteriously.

“My pride and happiness is not about money, it is helping a person in the darkest of times to go back to their normal way of life”, said Kuria.

He was born and raised at Nakuru’s Kabazi area.
