Impeccable sources informed this writer that five officials of Wa Ingo Welfare Group based in parts of Nakuru West and East and which brings together more than 200 members of the Luhya ethnic community residing in Nakuru may be prosecuted after one of them spilled the beans of alleged corruption by his fellow officials.

Seth Musungu, a member of the group who works as a sales manager with a local supermarket told this writer on Wednesday that the meeting that had been called specifically for the matter, ended abruptly after a section of members and the officials indulged in name calling, counter accusations and physical confrontations after a motion to suspend the alleged corrupt official was passed.

According to the eye witness, the Welfare’s officials member representative had told the meeting that was attended by about one hundred members at Afraha Stadium that the group’s Treasurer Isaac Makabila, Chairman Antony Mukhovi and Secretary General Silus Mulavu had masterminded to withdraw total of Sh500,000 from the welfares account between October and December last year which they shared amongst themselves.

He had also alleged that the officials had unproceduraly disposed off old office equipment and machines after purchasing new ones.

“Members selected a ten-member committee to investigate the matter among other corruption allegations in a period of two weeks and to table the report to members during another general meeting that will be announced,’’ said Musungu.

When contacted for comment, the Treasurer of the Group Isaac Makabila, a former government veterinary and businessman based in Langa Langa area said the allegations were false and politically motivated by the members representative who wants to run for a bigger office pre-maturely.

“All the money that is withdrawn from the Welfares account is based on budgets approved by members and that is how it is spent. Records are in place and we are ready to prove our critics wrong even if it means going to a Court of Law,’’ said Makabila.
