Speaking at Afraha stadium, Kenyatta cited that in the current world, majority of the businesses were now online based.

“The free Wifi helps in bringing down overheads in starting your own business. The current world is currently being driven by online businesses. I am appealing to the youths to take advantage of the freely available connection to market themselves to the whole world,” she said.

The first lady pointed out that access to the world and comparing how other parts do things through the net was also important in boosting trade.

She commended the county for being the first to host such an initiative.

“I would like to thank Governor Kinuthia Mbugua for giving the youths a chance to access free Wifi in major parts of the county,” she said.

Nakuru County is the first in Africa and the fourth in the world to have free public Wifi.

The connection, dabbed ‘Nakuru Bilawaya’, was re-launched by the governor and State House Digital Director Denis Itumbi.

It is powered by LIWQWIFI who gave the county all the mast and the connections for free.
