A Nakuru businessman has been named among cartels smuggling poisonous sugar in the country.
The wealthy businessman is said to have been unmasked after a company he runs as the CEO was named the importer of sugar from Brazil which is not fit for human consumption.
A security officer aware of the investigations told this writer that those behind the contraband sugar are ‘big people’ and the war ‘will not go far’.
Many of those associated with the smuggling have deep connections within the political class and it will be difficult to totally conquer them, the source said.
The Nakuru businessman is known to enjoy unfettered access to top Jubilee leaders.
By Monday, there were reports that sleuths were monitoring several Nakuru go-downs where millions of kilos of contraband sugar are holed.
