Nakuru Public Health Officer Samuel Kingo’ri has given butchery owners in the county seven days to register their business failure to which they will be shut down.
Speaking to news reporters at Nakuru town Tuesday, Kingo’ri said some butcheries are operating without licences.
He warned that those who will fail to heed to the directive risk arrest and prosecution.
“Nakuru butchery operators have 7 days to register and get licences, we can no longer tolerate rogue businessmen who only value their pockets,” he said.
The health official said the move has been necisitted by the rise in sell of uninspected meat that has resulted to some fatalities.
Kingo’ri further put on notice traders allegedly selling game meat to unsuspecting residents.
The health official asked locals to be careful on where they buy meat and also provide information about those enagaging in dubious business.
On Monday, Nakuru County Human Rights Activists raised concerns over the sale of game meat.
The activists asked the county health department to put in place measures that will guarantee safety of meat consumers.
