Nakuru County executive in charge of roads Kamau Kairu, was on Wednesday attacked by angry Kuresoi residents who were protesting over bad roads in the area.
Kairu found himself in a rocky place when he said that the County Government cannot be able to repair the roads in the area as they were still under Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA).
"KERRA is yet to give us these roads which belong to us. If I spend the county money on these roads, the auditor general will question me," said Kairu amidst jeers from the crowd.
Kairu’s comments angered the residents who started throwing stones at the executive prompting him to run for safety.
Kellen Wanjiru, one of the area residents lamented of the poor road conditions, saying a lot needs to be done in terms of road development.
"Expectant women are giving birth on the roads as the only means of transport here are tractors, we do not have matatus we can use simply because there are no roads," said Wanjiru.
"They are always here to collect taxes but we don't know where these county money goes to as services are poor," added Philip Kigotho a driver.
They gave the County 14 days to repair the roads, or they collect signatures to recall them.
