Nakuru Catholic Bishop Maurice Muhatia has vowed never to join any homosexual couples in marriage in his church.
The Bishop said that he did not advocate for same sex marriage and hence he could not agree to oversee the marriages of such individuals.
“Even if you put a gun on my head and order me to join the couple, I will not do it. It is against my belief and what I stand for. I cannot advocate for such marriages and cannot support them in any way,” said Muhatia.
He was speaking at St Veronica Catholic church in Kuresoi on Sunday where he challenged Christians to fight calls for the introduction of homosexuality in the country.
“We set our standards by what God dictates of us. As a church we should not be swayed by the world. We should gauge our standards by what the Bible tells us and they should be our guiding principles. Homosexuality is forbidden in the Bible and hence I cannot go against what God demands of me,” he said.
Muhatia pointed out that the adaptation of foreign cultures was affecting the youths in our country.
He called on parents to offer right mentorship and guidance to their children.
“We call on our parents to ensure that they take time to instil the right values on our children. That way they will not depart from the ways of God,” he noted.
