A majority of bodaboda operators operating in Nakuru Central Business District (CBD) and its environs have expressed their satisfaction in the county’s safety initiative.
Speaking during the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and CMC Motors partnership deal at the county headquarters on Friday, the operators asked the government to invest in road maintenance saying that their safety alone was not enough.
“For us, we fully depend on these machines to earn a living, if they are not functioning well, we feel the pinch,” Tim Wanjohi, chairperson of Nakuru town bodaboda Sacco, said.
He added that the safety plan will protect them but faulted the county’s road maintenance plan saying that the pathetic state of roads is affecting their business.
“Tear and wear are our main concerns because our operating costs go up in such cases. Something ought to be done because the situation has been made worse by the on-going El Nino rain.
Nakuru Central Rift Bodaboda Sacco boss Stanley Musyoka hailed the partnership saying that it is an indicator of the county’s support towards the thriving industry.
More than 200 operators received reflector jackets and other safety gears with NTSA, calling on police to mount a crackdown against unscrupulous operators.
