Nakuru County Commissioner Mohammed Birik has given chiefs and local administrators a month to ensure that all residents embrace Nyumba Kumi security initiative.
Speaking from his office in Nakuru on Monday, Birik urged local chiefs to sensitise locals about Nyumba Kumi.
The County Commissioner noted that since the introduction of Nyumba Kumi crime has gone down.
“Nyumba Kumi is working and our aim as Nakuru County is to have all residents embrace it,” said Birik.
Birik said the county is working with youths and professionals to make sure that locals fully embrace the initiative.
The Commissioner said that campaigns will be launched across Nakuru to educate residents on Nyumba Kumi.
Meanwhile, Birik wants People Living with Disabilities (PLWDS) to be engaged in development.
The Commissioner notes that PLWDS have been empowered constitutionally and must be involved.
Birik who met representatives of PLWD in Nakuru promised that his office will work with them on security and other matters.
The commissioner assured residents that security in the county will be tightened.
He said the county security committee is working with the national government to boost security following security threats especially from the terror group Al-Shabaab.
