Nakuru County Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto has urged community elders in the county to support the government initiatives aimed at promoting peace among the many communities living in the county.
Speaking at his office when he hosted the Nakuru Luo Council of Elders on Thursday, Ruto said the presence and voice of community elders will help streamline peace campaigns.
He said community elders have a role to play in making sure that peace exists in the county.
The deputy governor said the county has started various peace campaigns aimed at bringing all the communities living in Nakuru together.
He said peace caravans will be traversing the county soon adding that the county has partnered with other groups to preach peace and unity in Nakuru.
“The Nakuru county government is ready to work with community elders to ensure that there is peace among our people,” he said.
Ruto noted that Nakuru is a cosmopolitan county and it will be necessary to encourage residents to live in peace and harmony.
Ruto added that the county government will not tolerate acts of incitement or evil talk that will cause anxiety and tension in the county.
On his part, the Nakuru Luo Council of Elders chairman Barack Okul said the community will support the government on peace and other development.
He said peace is necessary if the county is to achieve development.
Okul encouraged the communities living in the county to join hands and fight acts of tribalism and nepotism which he said are the obstacles to peace and development.
