Lake Naivasha Boat Owners Association chairman David Kilo has accused Nakuru County for failing to support them as they search missing helicopter victims.

He said that the mission has been left to Nakuru Kenya Wildlife Service and local divers.

Kilo complained about the one boat that is patrolling the expansive lake.

“We have tried all possible means to get in touch with the governor over the rescue mission to no success,” Kilo said as quoted by the Star.

However, National Disaster Operation Centre officer Jonathan Kertich promised that the search will continue until the bodies of missing persons are retrieved. He blamed murky waters for the delay.

The delay has made the families of missing victims, John Mapozi and Sam Gitau, to decide to plant a banana stem on the shores of Lake Nakuru as sign of farewell to their loved ones.

Five people perished but three, Antony Kipyegon, Veronica Muthoni and pilot Apolo Malowa, were retrieved.

“It’s unfortunate that the body of our beloved son cannot be found. Our hopes of finding him have turned into frustration. But we are still praying for a miracle to happen,” Gitau’s aunt Elizabeth Njeri said.

Divers from neighboring Lake Naivasha urged the families not to lose hope as they continue with the search.
