The motion has been tabled by the Trade and Tourism Committee in the Nakuru County Assembly.

The committee Chairman, Michael Wang'ombe who is also the Turi ward MCA said the County council askaris will be empowered to apprehend illicit brewers just as they do with the hawkers.

"The legislation is envisaged to enable the askaris deal ruthlessly with the illicit brewers. Let me take this earliest opportunity to put them on notice so that they do not say they were caught unawares," warned Wang'ombe.

He further said that the legislation is also meant to ensure that brewers operating legally are able to thrive without competition from the black market.

The MCA adds that the bill also has a clause on establishment of rehabilitation centres.

"We want to have one rehabilitation centre in the county to take care of the drug addicts," said Wang’ombe.
