The County of Government of Nakuru is not experiencing any financial crisis, a county official has said.
County Secretary Benjamin Njoroge said despite the Treasury delaying in realising funds to devolved units, Nakuru was not hit by the cash crunch.
"We have received an advance from the government to pay staff salaries. Workers are receiving their pay through their respective banks," Njoroge said on Thursday.
Critical services in most counties have either slowed down or stopped due to lack of funds.
According to the Council of Governors (CoG), at least 16 counties are yet to get disbursement from the National Government.
Nakuru is one of the counties that missed out of the latest cash disbursement.
CoG protested against what it termed as continued denial of the much-needed funds even after the Senate cleared a schedule for disbursement.
"The continued delay and breach of the law has led to untold suffering for citizens and led to the interrupted delivery of services stalling development projects. Counties continue to incur costs when they borrow from the commercial banks to pay salaries," Chairman Josephat Nanok said in a letter to Treasury PS Henry Rotich, two weeks ago.
The National Government has blamed the Senate for failing to harmonise laws authorising the release of funds to the counties.
