Nakuru county government has agreed to patner with Power of Mercy Advisory Committee (POMAC) on re-integration of ex-convicts in the society without stigmatization.
This was agreed upon by the Nakuru county governor Kinuthia Mbugua on Tuesday when the committee led by Regina Saira Boisabi visited the governor in his office at Nakuru county headquarters.
Boisabi explained that POMAC has sought for the support of county governments in creating awareness on alleviating stigmatization for ex-convicts.
“We want to partner with counties to see that released convicts who have gone through training and have acquired skills are also given opportunities to work and fend for themselves outside the four walls of their prison cells,” she said.
Governer Kinuthia on his part said that Nakuru county is elated to be part of the process of re-integration and will make an effort in seeing that ex-convicts are not stigmatized.
POMAC’s role is to receive and review petitions from deserving criminal offenders and make appropriate recommendations to the president.
It is tasked with the rehabilitation and re-integration of the ex-convicts in the society.
