The Nakuru county governor Kinuthia Mbugua has maintained that his government will continue supporting efforts to end Gender Based Violence in the county.
The governor said that he will continue supporting initiatives from the 'Keeping the Promise End GBV Campaign' rolled out by The National Gender and Equality Commission-Kenya (NGEC).
He lauded efforts made by the commission saying it has reduced cases of GBV in the county since the campaign was taken in.
“It is good that our constitution provided this commission. This is a commitment to address issues of gender and equality; it has given us the opportunity to deal with these issues which is an improvement from the past,” he said.
He spoke when NGEC chair Winfred Lichuma visited him in his office on Friday.
On her part, Lichuma said that the commission has so far made positive steps in the reduction of GBV cases in Nakuru county.
She further lauded efforts made by the county government in mitigating GBV cases by sensitising the police and medical personnel on the dangers of GBV.
The governor also noted that women need to be empowered so as to break off from prohibitive cultural practices that have often led to escalation of domestic violence.
