The Nakuru County government was on Tuesday put on the spot for challenges faced by persons living with disabilities.
The group says that the county government needs to put up social amenities that cover their special needs including special toilets.
Joshua Muriithi, a nominated MCA representing people with special needs in the county, said that the disabled in the county are facing a lot of challenges due to lack of special toilets meant for their needs.
“The disabled people in the county face a lot of challenges. The county government needs to put up structures that will cater for their needs,” Muriithi said during a press briefing.
He added that the voices of the disabled individuals within the county should be put into consideration and acted upon with immediate effect.
Muriithi on a lighter note urged the parents of the children living with disabilities to avoid restraining them in seclusion. He said that they also have a hand in the affairs of the county and that they need to be heard.
“It is high time parents stopped hiding their disabled children and let them play a role in the governance of the county. If we hide them, then their challenges will never be brought to light,” he said.
