The Nakuru County government seeks to address the ‘brown teeth’ problem caused by excessive fluoride levels in drinking water in most areas of the county.
Nelson Tanui, a senior officer in the county’s ministry of water and natural resources said that all water sources within the county have excessively high fluoride content, hence they are forced to source for water from Nyandarua County.
Speaking on Friday in Nakuru town, Tanui said that water from Nyandarua ranges is naturally clean with zero fluoride and it will help address the brown teeth problem, commonly known as dental fluorosis, which has affected most residents in the county.
He said apart from solving the dental fluorosis problem, the water from Nyandarua will help curb perennial water shortage in the county.
“We have just held our first consultative meeting and we hope that soon Nyandarua will be able to supply us with clean drinking water,” said Tanui.
He added that some people from Nakuru County have been locked out of joining the military due to brown teeth.
