The national government has allocated Sh38 million toward the construction of Itara dam to boost water supply in Nakuru County.
Molo sub-county administrator Shadrack Koross said there was an acute shortage of clean water in Nakuru County, saying the project will alleviate suffering experienced by residents in access to clean water.
He said water will be pumped from Itara dam in Tinet along Mau Forest to benefit residents of Molo, Kuresoi, Njoro and Nakuru, where seasonal rivers had dried up due to forest degradation.
Moreover, an estimate of about ten thousand households in Kamara Ward, Kuresoi north constituency are set to benefit from a Sh 10 million water project funded by the Nakuru county government to alleviate suffering of area residents who move long distances for a drop of water to quench thirst.
Kamara Ward MCA Joseph Ngware said the water projects were ongoing on higher ground that will enable water to flow freely to communities around Kamara, Jogoo,Mau summit, Total and Baraka.
Ngware said the water project is part of a three year strategic plan to improve the lifestyle of area residents as they heavily depend on water from rivers.
