Police in Nakuru North are blaming the courts for what they have said is being lenient on offenders of illicit brews. Nakuru OCPD Duncan Ngathu said that the courts are thwarting their efforts to finish the illicit brews in the area by charging the offenders light fines with no jail terms. Addressing journalists on Thursday when arresting a habitual illicit brews offender where they nabbed 2000 litres of Kangara and 50 litres of chang'aa Ngathu said courts are not dealing firmly with illicit brew offenders. "What we are asking is for courts to impose heavy penalties on the offenders to serve as a warning to other culprits," said Ngathu. Ngathu urged residents to report the illegal brewers living among them to chiefs and their assistants. Area brewer, Asman Gakubi, who was arrested with his wife and two others will be appear before a Nakuru court on Friday morning. Brewing equipments were also nabbed by the police during the operation and will be used in court as evidence.
