Nakuru County Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto has condemned the widening rifts that have engulfed the county administration’s move to wipe the traders from the streets.
Speaking on Monday in Nakuru, Ruto reviled the recent abhorrent attacks on the county police officers who were injured when a scuffle ensued during the latest demolition exercise.
The wrangles which have rocked the town involving Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria and the County inspectorate have taken the centre stage and the lawmaker has expressed defiance in bowing to the latter’s plans to kick the traders out of the town’s Central business district.
“You are leaders. You should not wash your dirty linen in public. Don’t spend too much time airing your differences while there is a lot to be done including handling security. Help us create some order,” said Ruto.
He went on to criticize the incident in which police vehicles were damaged without intervention from the security officers.
“It is so shameful to witness some rowdy youth incited by some leaders, with pangas and machetes, attacking police officers,” said Ruto.
Ruto claimed that the ongoing rifts are politically-instigated and has only put the traders and the locals at stake.
“The differences you have should be solved and decisions reached at, without inconveniencing the people who voted you in. Let us have a lasting solution to the issue of these traders and move on to other matters of serving the people," added Ruto.
