Lakeview MCA Wanyoike Wanango has criticised the Nakuru County Environment Department over what he terms as harassment of youths who collect garbage from homes in Naivasha.

Wanango says that though the work belongs to the county government, the youths have volunteered to do it at a small fee after the county government failed the residents.

"They charge residents around Sh 30 per month and they keep their homes clean. But now some officials from the environment department have been asking the youths to take some money to their office every Monday saying it is for fuelling the garbage truck," said Wanango.

The MCA says it is unacceptable to harass young people who are trying to eke a living from a failure of the county government.

He now wants the County Environment CeC Richard Rop to intervene and give guidance on the matter.

"The CeC must tell us whether these orders come from him. The county government has a lot of money to fuel their vehicles and these youths cannot be the ones to do it," he said.

Wanango was speaking in his ward on Tuesday when he visited the said youths where he promised to deliver a solution soon.
