An expert with a global agrochemical firm has urged Ndungiri farmers to adopt Kilimo Biashara to increase their income and improve livelihood.
Daniel Kanyi of Syngenta Firm says that gone are the days when farmers tilled land for food subsistence.
“With technical development in agriculture, farmers now have a chance to increase production through Kilimo Biashara,” said Kanyi.
Kanyi assured farmers that Kilimo Biashara is committed to sustainable agriculture through innovative technologies.
Speaking today at Ndungiri Shopping Center, Bahati Constituency, Nakuru County during a farmers' day, Kanyi urged farmers to use the latest farming technologies to increase their production.
“There is need for farmers to use certified seeds and use of crop rotations systems to increase their yields.
The agrochemical expert said that the firm has been working with both levels of governments to support development of agriculture and eradication of pests.
Kanyi called for implementation of strategies for reduction of production costs to ensure farmers enjoy the fruits of their labour.
He however urged the government to draft a policy that would ensure farmers are protected from substandard chemical which have flooded the market.
Kanyi urged farmers to use herbicides and pesticides from licensed firms.
He further urged farmers to consult agricultural research centers to get latest crop information.
