The Nakuru county assembly is committed in esnsuring matters of gender are addressed across the county through legislation.

Nominated MCA Catherine Kamau, who is also the chairperson Gender committee in the county assembly, said they are working together as women MCAs under the umbrella Nakuru Women MCAs caucus to see to it that gender issues are addressed.

While citing the recent case in Mariakani area of Nakuru where a woman was raped and murdered, the MCA condemned the incident terming it quite unfortunate.

“We are working together on gender issues that touches on women, PLWDS, youths and children. So we are looking into issues that affect the groups for instance just the other day a woman was raped and murdered at Mariakani which is so unfortunate and these are the issues we are looking into," she said.

Kamau said her committee on is working on how to come up with sensitization program concerning Gender Based Violence cases in Nakuru.

“We are trying to come up with a program to sensitize on how to prevent cases of GBV. We feel as women leaders we need to change or improve the lives in our society," she said.
