17-year-old Lucy Anyango Ochieng’  from Kivumbini Ward in Nakuru East has made her parents and siblings happy after overcoming all odds and scored a B+ mean in the just released 2017 KCSE.

Anyango, who comes from a humble background in Manyani estate, Kivumbini Ward in Nakuru East sub-county said she has had challenges including sickness (eye and spinal problems) but commends the Equity Wings to Fly that offered her s scholarship after her KCPE in 2013 in which she scored 386 marks at Nakuru Primary.

This saw her join Nakuru Girls High school and to her that was just the beginning of her success journey.

Speaking on Thursday morning when members of the press visited her home in Manyani, Anyango said she looked at the humble background she comes from and vowed to work hard.

“During my High school I had challenges but my background made me study harder. I thank God for the grade I got and I’m sure my family is no longer going to be the same again," shd said.

She now hopes a well wisher will help her undergo an eye surgery.

To other students her advice is to remain focused in life.

“I couldn’t sit upright and times my eye sight was poor but since the surgery was expensive I had just to cope with the same and here I am today. My advice to the others is to remain focused in whatever one wants to achieve. I look forward to study architecture at campus,” she says.

Her dad John Ochieng who only survives on casual jobs to meet the needs of his family together with her mother Mary Adhiambo said their daughter had made them proud.

“Her success has made us proud and I believe she will one day help us as a family including her siblings,” he said.

Addressing media in her office, Nakuru Girls Highs school Deputy Principal Ms Esther Wanjiku Maina commended Anyango for her good performance despite her medical condition.

“This is a girl who has had medical conditions but we must say that her performance is very good bearing in mind the condition she was in at the exam period,” said Ms Maina.

Nakuru Girls’ High school was among the top 100 schools in the 2017 KCSE results at position 40 with a performance index of 59.94.
