A family from Kampi ya Moto in Rongai sub-county is mourning following the death of their 17-year-old girl on Tuesday.
Irene Chepchirchir, a Form Two student at Tumaini High School, committed suicide after her request to be transfered to a day school was declined by her family members.
According to Emmanuel Koech, Chepchirchir's brother, the deceased took her life after they insisted she should continue studying at the boarding school where she was enrolled last year in Form One.
"She wanted to transfer to a day school and we all disagreed and insisted that she remains in boarding school," Koech said.
Chepchirchir had returned home from school claiming she was unwell and refused to go back to school even after being taken to hospital.
The student hanged herself when she was left alone at home.
"I saw her a few hours before I received the sad news. She had been left at home alone when she killed herself using a rope," said Metrime Koech, her sister.
