Over 5,200 households in Nakuru town have been disinfected against bedbugs, Nakuru Senior Pubic Heath Officer Mr Paul Waititu has said.

Speaking on Friday at Kivumbuni Estate, Nakuru Town East Constituency during the on-going campaign to disinfect homes infested with bedbugs, Waititu acknowledged that the campaign has registered success.

“Our campaign to disinfect households infested with bedbugs has proved successful,” said Waititu.

However, Waititu noted that the campaign has meet resistance from some residents who are not willing to let health officials into their homes.

“Some residents have failed us. They are not allowing our health staffs to enter their homes for fear of being ridiculed,” said Waititu.

Waititu said the county government is committed to addressing the menace and urged residents to support the campaign.

“The county government has provided enough resources and it is up to residents to support the campaign to weed out bedbugs,” said Waititu.

“I urge residents to allow health staffs to disinfect their bedding including under wears,” he urged.

He said the affected areas are Rhoda, Mwariki and Kaptembwa Estates adding the county government has sent enough heath workers to contain the situation.
