Nakuru County governor Kinuthia Mbugua has urged all leaders at sub-county and Ward level to embrace plans to address water issue.
Governor Mbugua was speaking on Saturday during a consultative meeting with leaders and respective stakeholders in the sector, in Njoro sub-county where he was hosted by area MP Joseph Kiuna.
Mbugua, in his speech, urged leaders to formulate laws governing supply and management of this scarce resource at all levels as well as allocating more resources towards water projects.
“We as leaders are mandated to ensuring that every home has access to clean water. It is the right of every Kenyan to be incorporated in the government’s plan of bettering the lives through provision of clean safe water,” said Mbugua.
He also pledged his support for plans to improve water supply and commitment to assuring that Nakuru County residents have access to clean water with ease.
“We have come up with short term measures into the solution including the rehabilitation of a major borehole in Njoro. We are planning to allocate more resources for the drilling of two other boreholes in the county, added Governor Mbugua.
This is in addition to the evaluation plans in the construction of a major dam in Ndoinet, Kuresoi North, the largest dam in Kenya that will provide water to residents across Molo, Njoro, Rongai and Nakuru town.
The meeting was also graced by the county Deputy governor Joseph Ruto, Njoro MCA Hezel Kariuki, the managing director, Nakuru Rural Water and Sanitation Company (NARUWASCO) Daniel Korir, among other notable leaders.
