Mbugua said that the Pesa Mashinani campaign that sought to push for the counties to have 45 percent of the national budget from the national government instead of the 15 percent would see better delivery of services.

“Currently as Nakuru County we have received Sh7 billion and we raise Sh3 billion as revenue. Considering that most services in the counties are not devolved, it becomes a huge problem to run the counties,” he said on Tuesday.

The governor cited health and education as a great challenge when it came to service delivery, saying a huge amount of resources were needed to ensure the smooth running of the two departments.

“Even though we are only supposed to take care of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) and the technical institutes, we have seen parents come to us demanding for classrooms and desks. We simply cannot ignore them,” he said.

He urged residents to support the initiative as they stood to benefit more from the process.

“For devolution to work a lot of money is needed and we hope that the government will reconsider injecting more cash to this. This will improve the country’s economy and welfare at large,” he added.

He was speaking at Enashipai hotel in Naivasha when he met investors from all over East Africa.
