Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has released Sh55 million to support needy children education in the county.

The money will be divided among the county's 55 wards, where each will receive Sh1 million.

Speaking on Tuesday while disbursing the fund Mbugua emphasised on the need to upgrade education standards in the county.

“My government is committed to assist those in need. The government has provided free education which should be on equal opportunity basis to all Kenyans,” said Mbugua.

However, he affirmed that an additional fund of the same amount will be released before the end of the year to help more students.

He also urged parent to refrain from keeping their children at home, at a time when they are supposed to be in school learning.

“My government will do its best to make sure that all children access education. Parents also have a role to play by ensuring that their children attend school,” said Mbugua.

Education stakeholders too lauded the governor for supporting education in the county. 

Martha Wambui, a mother, “I pray God that my son will get some share.”

Wambui adds that she has been having challenges in paying her son’s school fees.
