Flamingo MCA Moses Gichangi has urged Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to respect local investors within the county, and create a conducive environment for local businessmen.

The youthful leader, who spoke to journalists after the Governor’s press statement to hawkers and county house dwellers in Nakuru, said the governor ought to respect local investors and stop killing local talents.

Gichangi blamed the Nakuru County Government for collecting tax, but failing to improve the working standards for the town business community such as sanitation and drainage.

He said the county should adhere to the welfare of the public, so as to ensure equal benefit and not just collecting tax where people work under poor hygiene.

At the same time, the MCA supported hawkers who pleaded to be given time to find a place to do their business, after they were informed that they government will need them to move.

“Hawkers should be given more time, and the governor should give our people an alternative place of doing business since they are also investors. The local and other investors should be treated equally. When you chase us in the streets and fail to give us an alternative place to do our business, where do you expect them to get food and other basic needs,” said Gichangi.

On the issue county council houses, Gichangi said it is a duty of very county to take care of the housing of their employees, and that they should be affordable, and should not be used as a scheme to raise revenue.

According to James Thuronira, the chairman of Kimathi house dwellers association, the houses are in a pathetic environment and the county should give them more time to clear their bills.

"We as tenants blame the county government for poor sanitation and drainage. The County should give our people more time to pay their due,” said Thuronira.
