Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has vowed to support farming activities with the view of improving food production.
Speaking to residents at Nyota ward, Kuresoi North on Thursday, Mbugua said that boosting farming is among his top development agendas.
He noted that farming remains a key to realization of economic development in Nakuru saying that a large percent of residents engage in farming.
“My government remains committed to make sure that we boost farming and improve the living standards of the people,” he said.
The County boss said that various programmes meant to support farming among the providing free fertilizer and seeds are already in place.
He observed that farming has the potential of boosting the county’s economy if done the right way.
Mbugua said that programmes to sensitize farmers on application of technology in farming are in place. “We want our farmers to embrace Information Communication Technology (ICT) in their agricultural activities.
The former Administration Police Commandant said that the county is working on policies that will help farmers market their produce.
He asked farmers not to sell their produce t throw away prices saying the move hurt the economy and only benefits middle men.
The county governor also announced that farmers across the county will receive subsided fertilizers and a seed during next year’s planting season.
