Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has denied reports that his county government has accumulated a debt of Sh2.3 million.
The governor said the reports were not accurate, adding that debt stands at Sh840 million.
“Part of this debt, which is Sh840 million, was inherited from the defunct municipal and county councils while the remainder is money owed to contractors which is in LPOs and has been factored as part of the debt,” Mbugua said.
The governor argued that his county administration deserved to get a second term during next year’s elections, saying that development under devolution is much faster.
He said the county government has made a lot of gains since it came into office three years ago.
Mbugua came to the defence of his trip to The Netherlands, revealing that he was on a mission to negotiate the renewal of a project to improve water, sanitation and a sewer line in the county.
