Hawkers in Nakuru County have now accused Nakuru East Member of Parliament David Gikaria and the Chairman Simon Ole Nasieuku for giving them false hope on the relocations.
The irate hawkers claimed they were ill prepared for the relocation as they still held on hopes that they would get a place to sell their wares.
“They kept promising us that we will get a place to settle. This made us to relax and not consider alternatives. We also could not prepare ourselves as we were sure they would handle the matter,” said Susan Waithera.
Jotham Kimani claimed that the two lied to them about their ability as the county heads.
“They made us believe that they had the power to stop the relocation. Hence we ended up stranded and with nowhere to turn to. Even though we are still in the dark, they keep on telling us that we will still get stalls,” he said.
The traders were speaking during a meeting at the Nyayo Gardens On Thursday, where they threatened to go to court over the exercise.
“We intend to sue them for falsification. They lied to us that they would be able to deal with the relocation but unfortunately their hands were tied. It was important for them to admit when they could not achieve something, which they have reluctantly avoided,” said Joseph Mureithi, a trader.
