Hawkers in Nakuru County now want the government to disband the committee set up to distribute kiosks in the area. They alleged that most of the committee members were corrupt and were giving out the kiosks discriminatively Speaking to the reporters at Nyayo gardens on Friday, they claimed that the committee consisted of corrupt individuals. "We have some persons who refuse to give you a piece in case you do not get along. That is why so many people have been left without kiosks and are roaming in the streets," said Ann Wangari. She said that the committee had brought in personal differences in the distribution. "We need a new committee that will not be biased and would not harass anyone as per their political differences," she added. Mary Nyokabi, a small-scale trader, said that they had also been threatened by members of the committee. "We need to feel safe in our environment. We do not appreciate this torture they are making us go through," she claimed. Nakuru deputy governor Joseph Ruto called on the hawkers to write a formal complaint so that the issue could be worked on. "We will investigate on the matter but we do not want to work on speculation and rumours," he said.
