There has been an existing conflict between the county government of Nakuru and the hawkers since January 2015 when they were forcefully evicted from Nakuru Central Business District following a directive issued by Governor Kinuthia Mbugua.

In the just concluded Jubilee Party primaries, flyers circulated warning business owners against nominating Mr Lee Kinyanjui because of word that the incumbent governor wanted to bring back the hawkers to the streets, a day before the nominations.

But Governor Mbugua has refuted the claims saying that he has never promised to return the hawkers back to the streets terming the rumors as“kicks of a dying horse”.

Meanwhile Jubilee nomination winner Mr Lee Kinyanjui, during his campaigns said that his administration would look into the plight of the hawkers.

It was not clear who is behind the looming return of the hawkers into the streets after they were evicted from the streets by the county government two years ago.
