Nakuru county health workers have been warned against conflict of interest and corruption.
Speaking during the official opening of a workshop for Nakuru county health workers in Naivasha, Governor Lee Kinyanjui said his administration will not tolerate those who go against their work ethics.
“My office will not watch as the practitioners violate professional codes of ethics and other guidelines at the expense of the patients,” said Kinyanjui.
The Nakuru county chief cited an incident where media had highlighted a plight of a patient with a heart condition who had to wait for over three hours before being attended to at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.
He warned that stern action will be taken against those found culpable in future adding that, in most instances, the doctors and nurses miss work to operate their private clinic.
Kinyanjui said he promised Nakuru residents he will transform the health sector and will not condone inefficiency.
He commended the Elburgon sub-county hospital for sticking to its service charter in delivering health services.
“Patients suffer when health workers go on strike and such disputes can be solved through dialogue,” he said.
Health CEC Dr Jonah Manjari said a strategic plan to be developed at the workshop will help streamline service delivery in the sector.
He added that the government had invested much in health for better service delivery.
