County health chief officer Samuel Mwaura said the department has unveiled an initiative to enlighten residents on the disease symptoms by issuing circulars round the county.

He revealed that the health department is working with tourist facilities in the county, including rangers and hotel owners to prevent any infection that may creep in unnoticed.

“We want to heighten surveillance against Ebola by enlightening residents on the disease symptoms and where to report any suspected case. We have also asked the hoteliers to support our efforts by screening their visitors to seal up all possible channels of infection in the county,” Mwaura said.

Mwaura asked residents to be on the lookout for any symptoms that are Ebola-like and report the same to the nearest relevant authorities. The official said the steps have been taken since the county will not take chances with human lives.

The executive also urged county health workers to be patient with the county government over salary arrears. He said the issue had been addressed and their money already disbursed.
