Herbalists in Nakuru will attend a two day workshop on Community Health that is being organized by Nakuru Herbal Medicine Practitioners Association in collaboration with the Nakuru County Department of Culture and Social Services.
Samuel Busienei the Chairman of the association told this writer at his clinic in Kaptembwa today that the association’s sixty registered herbal medicine herbalists and those non members drawn from the entire Nakuru County region have been invited to attend the workshop that is dedicated at enhancing community health standards.
The workshop will start on April 13. “We realize that herbal medicine practice is recognized by the government not only as an alternative health sector but also as a traditional heritage. We must therefore strive at enhancing this privilege by serving society in the right manner.That is why it is important for our members to organize and attend such forums,’’said Busienei.
He added that the workshop will also be characterized with registration of new members certified by the government and hence rooting out unscrupulous herbal medicine people mushrooming in the county.
According to Busienei, the workshop that will be officially opened by the Nakuru County Government Education, Culture and Sports Executive Prof. Catherine Kitetu, who will also enhance a forum of exchanging information and knowledge among the participants and facilitators who will include leading herbal medicine practitioners and academicians in the county and country.
One of the ministries objectives is to register, monitor and train herbal medicine practitioners in Nakuru County.
