Several health centres and church organisations in Nakuru will host a free cancer screening exercise on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October 2014. The initiative, sponsored and organized by the Nakuru Hospice and Max Foundation, aimed at providing awareness about several cancerous diseases especially among women in Nakuru County. The director of Nakuru Hospice Elizabeth Ndungu said her organisation’s main objectives are bedded on providing community outreach programmes on life limiting diseases like cancer. “This exercise is neither the first nor the last of its kind. It is a continuous programme which seeks to provide awareness about cancer-related diseases especially breast cancer,” she said. The main event will be held at the Nakuru Hospice located within the Nakuru General Hospital along Nakuru-Kabarak road. Others camps will be set in Bondeni Maternity Home, All Anglican Church branches in several estates in the town, Nakuru Sports Club, Menengai Health Centre among others. Established in 2009, Nakuru Hospice offers quality care for patients with life limiting illnesses through palliate care. Since its inception it has organised many community outreach programmes providing charity health services to residents of Nakuru town. Max Foundation is a global health organisation that supports patience with life limiting illnesses like cancer and provides other health related charity activities in marginalized areas across the world.
