The fire is believed to have started from the kitchen and caught a section of the main dining area before firefighters from the Nakuru County government arrived and put it out. No one was injured during the incident.

Police said that the fire could have started as a result of an electric fault.

The fire started just as hotel staff were reporting to work at around 6am.

The building that houses the hotel is one of the oldest in Nakuru town.

Prior to the dissolution of local authorities, the defunct Nakuru municipal council had already issued notices indicating that leases for old buildings would not be renewed.

The incident comes barely two weeks since another fire consumed assets worth millions of shillings when a major building in Nakuru town went up in smoke.
