Thirty eight inmates at the Nakuru Main GK Prison were over the weekend awarded diplomas and certificates in Theology.

Among the graduands, were ten women and 28 men who took a one-year course.

Some of the graduands already had certificates and they decided to advance by enrolling for the diploma programme.

According to Rev Patrick Muthingu of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), the programme was started and sponsored by the church in 2014 with the with the aim of transforming inmates by the time they complete their term in jail.

Muthingu said the graduands also took a parallel course on human behavioural change to further reinforce their rehabilitation.

"This programme was started by the PCEA church to transform the inmates at the prison. 38 of them now have diplomas in Theology and they can go and spread the word of God outside there after completing their term," he said.

Muthingu said the church is committed to transforming lives of many Kenyans through various programmes it has embarked on.

He wished the graduands a better future and advised them to ensure they do not to break the law in order to motivate others in the society to live an honest life.
