Investors in Nakuru have been told to create local jobs through employment of local people and procurements.
This was said today, Thursday, by the Biashara Ward Member of the County Assembly Stephen Kuria, when he addressed participants at a Nakuru Investment Forum at Flamingo Hotel in Nakuru town.
The MCA observed that it was important for investors in Nakuru to consider employing local people, and also for them to purchase their investment materials from local markets to help boost the local economy and social standards.
“We should encourage investors in Nakuru to help boost our economy as is the aim of any investment, through employment of our people especially the youths and the purchasing of materials from our local; markets. This way they will be playing a good role in the development of our economy,” said the MCA.
According to Kuria, some investors were openly frustrating the local economy by refusing to consider locals for employment, while also importing materials from outside markets. He also noted that some investors in Nakuru were deliberately banking money in foreign banks while neglecting local money markets.
He said the County Assembly should pass laws that will ensure that investors in Nakuru directly contribute to the growth of the local economy.
