The Ministry of Water and Irrigation, department of National Water Services and Nakuru residents Tuesday joined the rest of the world in celebrating World Water Day at Mirera Primary School in Naivasha.

The event whose theme was; Water and Jobs, was illustrated by the water related jobs created by the flower farms, tourist lodges, irrigation, agriculture and geothermal energy production found in Naivasha.

“This year's theme is well exemplified by the water related jobs created by the flower farms, tourist lodges, irrigated agriculture and geothermal energy production.” said a statement by the National Water Services Principal Secretary Eng L. Simitu from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.

However, majority took to social media to express their mood using the hashtag #WorldWaterDay.

In Nakuru County, institutions have been identified by the World Water Day Organising Committee as key stakeholders due to their active role and activities in ensuring that water resources are well managed and also providing the basis for which secure jobs are created.

The annual event is celebrated every March 22.
