The WhatsApp group coordinator Joe Ngugi say they had only invited him for lunch at the Lake Nakuru Lodge last weekend, but he took the opportunity to announce his candidature.

Ngugi added that he had not anticipated that the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) boss would take the opportunity to announce his candidature for the gubernatorial seat but argued that there was nothing wrong with the move.

“This announcement will only spice up our local politics by encouraging healthy competition. Our strength in our county lies with a political diversity. Everybody else is, therefore, welcome to declare their political interests if they have some for 2017 elective posts,” he added.

Ngugi pointed out that they had invited all individual leaders from the county - from Kuresoi to Naivasha - but unfortunately, only Mututho honoured the invitation.

He added, “Lee Kinyanjui, David Gikaria and Jacob Macharia officially sent their apologies. Samuel Arama didn't pick our calls and we couldn't get hold of Raymond Moi, Zakayo Cheruiyot and Moses Cheboi.”

The coordinator pointed out that the group had achieved its mandate of bringing the residents to discuss pertinent issues on the county leadership while at the same time vet their leaders.

“King Makers will therefore try to educate the people of Nakuru on who could be the best suited for leadership in the county,” he added.
